DON'T LOOK FOR YOUR DREAM HOME....BUILD IT

A custom home can mean different things to different people.  Custom does not always equal expensive.  At ABS we define a custom home as a house built with the features and amenities that are important to the owner.  We have constructed custom homes that range in price from $130,000 to over $1.4 million.

The biggest msiconception regarding custom homes is that it costs a lot more to build a custom home than buying one already available from a builder.  The primary difference between building a standard home and a custom home is the amount of time spent interacting with the home owner.  The time spent working with the owner is increased but, the cost of building the structure remains the same.

At ABS we only build 3 to 4 custom homes per year.  We consider our clients carefully just as we know that our clients consider their builder carefully.  Communication is the key to succesfully building a custom home.  We average more than 20 hours of consultation with a client before signing a contract. 

The second most common misconception is that building a custom home will be stressful and difficult.  If the goals of the project are outlined in the beginning, we have found that custom home construction can be very simple and cause very little stress.  As with most things, good communication is the key.

Finally, all custom homes are not built the same and at ABS we do not bill them at the same price.  Ask most custom home builders what they caharge and odds are they will say "cost plus 20-25%", and while ABS has charged as much as 20% on very time consuming and detailed projects, our average cost to the owner has been around 12% over the past 5 years.

Chosing a builder for your custom home is a very big decision.  There is no way that we could cover all of the aspects and requirements of this type of construction on a web site.  However, if you are considering building your dream home we ask that you give ABS a call and we can meet in person and discuss your goals and expectations of the project.  At ABS we never charge consultation fees.   At best, an arrangement that allows ABS to build you home could be reached.  At worst, you get to discuss your dream home with people who have over 15 years experience building custom homes and you will probablly walk away knowing more about the construction process than before you sat down.
